TRIP: Abel Tasman Coast Track with Yasmine Ganley

TRIP
Aotearoa, Abel Tasman Coast Track
In January I tramped the Abel Tasman with my family. Three nights camping on the beaches, nearly all to ourselves. We took our morning walks very slowly and stopped often, allowing our littlest legs to do their exploring. Each track undulates around the coast's hills, sometimes curving deep into the bush, dense with native Matai and Kanuka, with the occasional view of the turquoise waters peeking through. While walking, we talked at length about moss, and mushrooms, and geeky things about tree seeds and the wind. We spent the rest of the day exploring the beach, setting up our tents, swimming and cooking.
Day one was spent at Anapai, which was our favourite spot. We woke to a view of the ocean from our tent, we swam nudie, explored the water-shaped rocks and caves. On our second day we walked further north to Mutton Cove and enjoyed the greatest swim in the ocean: no one was around, the water so fresh and clear with gentle little waves. We saw penguins, weka, and sea lions.
