Field Notes from Avan
This shoot was inspired by the soft light and stillness of winter in Jindabyne, captured late morning on the edge of Lake Jindabyne. We were staying at Gabrielle’s Czech grandfather’s house, which felt like a little log cabin tucked away in the mountains. It was the very start of winter and already freezing, with frost clinging to the grass in the mornings and smoke curling from chimneys around the lake. There’s something special about that kind of quiet, where time feels slower and the landscape feels vast and untouched. The decision to shoot later in the morning was intentional, we waited for the sun to come up and bring a little warmth into the day, and when it did, the light was clear and beautiful.
I’ve always been drawn to how light interacts with texture and form, and this shoot felt like a natural extension of that fascination. The way the sun moved across the water, the rocks, the clothes, and even skin gave the whole experience a quiet rhythm. My approach to photography is grounded in allowing space for moments to unfold organically. I’m not interested in forcing things; I’m more intrigued by what happens in between subtle shifts in posture, glances, the way fabric catches the wind.
This shoot felt like one of those days where everything aligned. The landscape gave us so much, stillness, space, and light, and the clothes seemed to belong there. They had this beautiful tension between structure and softness, feeling both timeless and entirely of the moment. Watching them move in the wind against the stark, muted landscape felt effortless to capture.
For me, the work only resonates if it feels honest. This shoot embodied that completely — nothing forced, just a response to the place, the light, and the moment we were in. - Avan
Field Notes from Gabrielle
This shoot was as fluid and beautiful as the lake we shot at. I grew up visiting Jindabyne regularly as a little girl to see my Grandfather who lived there and have always had such a fondness for this quiet mountain town.
Inspired by its magnificent landscapes and captivating energy we were so happy that Marsh saw its potential and agreed to do the shoot here. We decided to shoot at the end of May (the off- season), a sweet spot to capture the soft winter light before it would become too cold to do so.
The shoot day itself was heavenly; the sun was shining so deliciously warm, the scenery surrounding Jindabyne Lake was completely breathtaking and the clothes themselves were so comfortable, stylish, and easy to move and explore in- and shooting with Avan was a dream.
He has such a talented eye and appreciation for detail and so effortlessly heroed the design of the new collection while weaving in the beauty of the environment around us. I couldn't be more content with the final photos and the excuse to travel down to Jindabyne. It was a pleasure to shoot and showcase Marsh’s new collection in this little Snowy village that I love so much.
